The Foundation Stage is for children of age 3,4 and 5; they learn through exploration, play and talk and work towards achievement of Early Learning Goals and extension into the National Curriculum. The Foundation Stage is led and managed by a Lead Teacher, who supervises a team of qualified staff and reports to the KS1 Manager and the Headteacher. All children have access to both Foundation Stage classrooms as well as a garden area. Through all the areas children access all the areas of the Foundation Stage curriculum. These areas are:- Communication Language and Literacy, Mathematical Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Physical Development, Creative Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. Learning is child centred and aims to engage all interests through a practical hands-on approach. Key Stage 1 All children have a home/school reading record and are expected to read with an adult at home daily. Phonics are taught systematically and Year Two children have weekly spellings to learn at home. Mathematics homework, usually of a very practical nature, is also set weekly. Children have a range of experiences with Information and Communication Technology to enhance and extend their learning. Key Stage Two Children have weekly homework, appropriate to the age of the child; they are expected to keep their own reading logs and are encouraged to set a time at home for personal reading.
