Adderbury's school bus with no wheels!
Children in Adderbury are all set to catch a bus to school that has no wheels, driver, seats or exhaust!
The Christopher Rawlins Church of England Primary School in Adderbury is to become the latest to take up the concept of a 'walking bus' in conjunction with Oxfordshire County Council.
Walking buses are a popular way of enabling children to walk to school in a supervised and organised way. Just like a normal bus, a walking bus operates along a set route and has a timetable.
Parent volunteers
Walking buses that have followed the county council's set-up guidelines are provided with fluorescent jackets for all the children who walk and the parent volunteers who walk with them.
The Adderbury walking bus starts runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays starting at at 8.15 am from 40 Twyford Road.
The school's Walking Bus Co-ordinator, Sally Ding, said: "We are keen to encourage more children to walk to school and this is an ideal way of doing it. Children will benefit from the regular exercise and it will help to reduce the number of children travelling to school in cars."
Councillor Ian Hudspeth, Oxfordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Transport Implementation, said: "Well done to all concerned in Adderbury. I hope the walking bus will be a real success."
