Parent Teacher Association
Why do we have a PTA?
The PTA at Christopher Rawlins Primary School is an integral part of the school community. In its time the PTA has raised thousands of pounds which have been spent on improving equipment and resources to enhance our children's education and school facilities.
The PTA however, is about much more than just fundraising. The PTA exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and the community together socially in support of the school.
All parents and members of the school community can get involved if they want to, even if they only have a small amount of time available. All parents and carers are automatically members of the association when their children join our school.
How we raise money
The majority of funds are raised through the events that we run. Some of our most popular events are the joint Summer Fete held with St Mary's Church, the Christmas Bazaar, children's discos, family games night and the increasingly popular annual disco/function for parents (this year's event was a 70s/80s theme). There is always something going on and it is the icing on the cake to see the children having fun at events or using a piece of equipment that the PTA has donated.
How we spend the money we raise
Once money is raised from events the funds are banked straight away. Decisions on how to spend the money are made at PTA Committee Meetings. These are based on a 'shopping list' of items that the school would like to purchase compiled by Mrs McCready and the class teachers. In the main the PTA funds are for the 'extras' not provided by the school budget, that make our children's learning experience more fulfilling and exciting.
How you can get involved
There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through the PTA. Offering to help before events or at other times during the year is so valuable. It doesn't matter if you can't help on a regular basis, or even if you can't come into school. There are always little jobs that can be done from home if you have an hour to spare! We really couldn't achieve what we do without the unseen 'army of helpers' that exists in school.
You can of course volunteer to be a committee member. Meetings take place once a month, usually on a Wednesday evening and alternate between the school hall and The Bell public house.
